- Signed 18-month contract in Italy
- Forced out after just one appearance
- Looking for move back to England
Former Tottenham midfielder Dele headed to Italy late in 2024 after seeing his contract at Everton expire and becoming a free agent. He agreed an 18-month deal after being offered a career lifeline by ex-Arsenal, Chelsea and Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas.
The 29-year-old managed just one appearance for Como, which lasted less than 10 minutes after stepping off the bench and collecting a red card in a meeting with AC Milan. Said experiment is now being written off, with Dele training away from the first-team squad in Italy.
There were suggestions that, after struggling for form and fitness across a two-and-a-half-year period, Dele may decide to hang up his boots. But according to The Telegraph there are no plans to call it a day just yet.
It is claimed that Dele “wants to carry on playing and is considering his options – including a return to England – as he remains determined to revive his career”. It “remains to be seen at what level and where” he looks to embrace another new challenge.
A الدوري الإنجليزي الممتاز return may be difficult for Dele, with it tricky to convince potential suitors of his worth, but a step backwards into the Football League could allow him to silence any doubters and rediscover his lost spark.
