- Pedro collides with Martinelli, vomits on the pitch in Brasil win
- Chelsea striker reassures fans he is ‘calm’ after the incident
- Ancelotti counting on Pedro as 2026 WC build-up continues
In the 18th minute of Brazil’s clash with Chile, Pedro clashed head-on with his teammate Martinelli while chasing a loose ball. The impact knocked him off balance, and he vomited on the pitch as medical staff rushed to his aid. The Chelsea star continued to play on and was only substituted in the 71st minute for Kaio Jorge. He spoke about the incident afterwards and reassured fans he was now feeling better.
Speaking to the media about the collision, Pedro said: “I was following the action, I was running to try to catch the ball. When I looked ahead, Martinelli was there. We collided there, and I received a blow to the stomach. I felt a little bad, but I was calm afterwards.”
On playing for Brazil: “I’m very happy to play good football for Chelsea and to be back with the Brazilian nacional team. I think every boy’s dream is to be here, and today I was able to start playing. I only missed a goal, which is partly due to that. But in the end, what matters is the victory.”
Pedro has been in superb form since his big-money move from Brighton to Chelsea, starring at the Club Copa del Mundo and making an instant impact in the Liga Premier. His call-up reflects the confidence Carlo Ancelotti has in him as Brazil prepare for the 2026 World Cup.
Brazil have already sealed qualification for the 2026 World Cup, giving Ancelotti the chance to further integrate Pedro into the squad. Chelsea, meanwhile, will be monitoring his fitness closely ahead of their return to Premier League action. With his strong start, Pedro remains central to both the Blues and the Selecao’s plans for the future.
