An untimely pre-season injury for Onana, which saw him pick up a hamstring complaint, helped to fuel the transfer rumours. There have, however, been no additions to Ruben Amorim’s ranks in the goalkeeping department.

Onana told Sky Sports when asked when he will be ready for action and how United are feeling as a collective heading into the 2025-26 campaign: “I feel good, I feel great. It’s been a few difficult weeks, but yeah, hopefully, I will be back for the start of the season. I’m enjoying the training with my guys, and we are looking forward. If we have a good start against Arsenal, everything is possible.”

Amorim has said of his goalkeeping options, having rotated Tom Heaton and Altay Bayindir during a tour of the United States: “I think even when you talk about Andre, you can see the goalkeepers. Even Tom is leaner, he’s a different goalkeeper. Altay did really well, and Onana is going to be better, like the other guys, this year.”

United are heading home for a friendly date with , who have ex-Red Devils keeper David de Gea on their books, before opening their campaign at home to old adversaries Arsenal on August 17.
