- Shaw set to join Gotham FC
- Will smash NWSL transfer record
- Shaw only joined the Courage in January
According to ESPN NJ/NY Gotham FC have agreed to a trade deal with the North Carolina Courage to sign Shaw for $1.25 million (£925,000), setting a new transfer record in the NWSL. In August, the Kansas City Current paid $600,000 to the Utah Royals for USWNT forward Ally Sentnor, which is the current league record.
Shaw joined the North Carolina Courage only nine months ago from the San Diego Wave and made nine league appearances for the club in the NWSL 2025 campaign. Gotham FC, who are currently sixth in the table, are looking to add some creativity to their midfield and as a result, have decided to break the bank for the 20-year-old. They will pay the total fee amount in multiple instalments and will offer Shaw a four-year deal.
While Shaw’s deal will set a new NWSL record, in the list of the most expensive transfers in Women’s football history, it will stand at number two, behind Grace Gyoro’s move from Paris Saint-Germain to the London City Lionesses. The newly promoted Women’s Super League side paid a whopping €1.65m (£1.43m/$1.93m) to sign the French midfielder.
Gotham FC will be back in action this Saturday as they take on the San Diego Wave in a crucial NWSL clash.
